HST Rally In Victoria BC Nov. 5, 2009

On Thursday 05 November 2009
there was a gathering to protest the HST on the steps of the Victoria Legislature Building at Noon until 2:00pm.This gathering was organized by the BC Refederation Party. However, we invited all parties, groups, unions, businesses, organizations, and individuals that are against the HST to join us and speak out on this issue. We believe that this issue transcends party lines and is something that requires a unified effort by all British Columbians.

The ability to veto bad legislation such as the HST, proposed by ANY government is one of the core values of the BC Refederation Party. This is why we are 100% behind any initiatives to stop it, and why we will be promoting the peoples initiative which was begun by former premier Bill Vander Zalm and we will be handing out brochures to the public during the gathering, to provide information in this regard.

We encouraged everyone that is opposed to the HST to take the time and show up in support of this protest. The investment of one day is minute when compared to the loss of approximately $3,000.00 per year per family, or $30,000 over 10 years IF the HST percentage remains the same, and does not increase to European levels of 17% and 25%.

I appreciate your time!

Best regards

*My notes below:

The turnout was poor to say the least. But video was taken and will be uploaded to the net shortly.

Interesting to note, that the passage of the HST will allow the federal government to take jurisdiction over the provinces right to a direct tax contrary to section 92.2 of the BNA act which assigns powers which are to be exclusive to the provinces. How interesting that Prince Charles was was on that stage(outlined with the yellow tape) in the foreground the next day which I'm sure gathered far many more people.

Exclusive Powers of Provincial Legislatures

Subjects of exclusive Provincial Legislation

92. In each Province the Legislature may exclusively make Laws inrelation to Matters coming within the Classes of Subjects nexthereinafter enumerated; that is to say, —

1. Repealed.(48)

2. Direct Taxation within the Province in order to the raising of a Revenue for Provincial Purposes.

In the meantime, pictures of the event can be seen here.
